Our Board of Health was notified on Friday, August 20, 2021 by an epidemiologist in Boston and Lisa White, our FRCOG public health nurse that Leyden had a positive test for a mosquito carrying West Nile Virus in the northeast quadrant of town. This does not change our risk level but should motivate residents to adapt the following recommendations:
Empty any standing water outside
Limit your exposure outside between dusk and dawn, as these are peak mosquito
Wear long sleeves, long pants, and socks to reduce mosquito bite risk (hard to due in
warm weather but your health is worth it)
Apply insect repellent when you go outside, make sure it is age appropriate.
